Pixel Hearts at Gallery 1988 | Gabi de la Merced

On February 5th “Pixel Hearts” opened at Gallery 1988 (West) in Los Angeles. An art show honoring the love for video game culture curated by Chogrin.
Over 100 artists from around the world received a pixel heart wood canvas supplied by Prints on Wood to pay tribute to the glorious aesthetic of the 8-bit era.

El pasado 5 de Febrero se inauguró “Pixel Hearts” en la galería Gallery 1988 (West) de Los Angeles. Se trata de una exposición colectiva dedicada al amor por la cultura de los videojuegos que ha comisariado Chogrin.

Más de 100 artistas de alrededor del mundo recibimos un panel de madera con forma de corazón pixelado obra de Prints on Wood para utilizarlo como soporte para nuestros tributos a esa gloriosa estética de la era de los 8-bits.

I had no doubts about choosing Cuphead, the amazing video game created by Studio MDHR, inspired by cartoons of the 1930’s and created with the same techniques of the era, including traditional cel animation (hand drawn & hand inked), watercolor backgrounds and original jazz recordings. The coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

No dudé en elegir Cuphead, el alucinante videojuego creado por Studio MDHR, inspirado por los dibujos animados de la década de los 30 y creado con las mismas técnicas de la época, incluyendo animación tradicional sobre acetatos (dibujados y entintados a mano), fondos pintados con acuarela y grabaciones originales de jazz. La cosa más alucinante que he visto en mucho tiempo.

This way I’ve had the opportunity to go back to the primitive cartoons style that I love and reinterpret the Devil from this aesthetic viewpoint.
